Since 2004, we have aspired to be the market leaders in reliability and best value, with focus on a sustainable supply chain partners and continuous product development. Our environmental credentials are strong given the fact the engineered timber door leaf is a carbon sink, sourced from renewable forests within Europe and that the slab and frame set are recyclable at the end of their useful life. However, with continued product development aligned within our sustainable and reliability framework, we are actively developing our door proposition to exceed future long term environmental, as well as building regulatory standards.
With the new building regulations coming into force next month (June), we can confirm that Endurance doors comply with the new legislation, assuring continued strong growth for our Installer Partner network.
Further to recent dialogue with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), formerly the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). A revision of the Approved Document L was announced on the 24th of February, as detailed below.
'For timber doors, a maximum U value of 1.8 W/ (m2.K) or Door set Energy Rating Band E is permissible until the 14th of June 2023. This is to give manufacturers time to transition to the standard in this table 4.2. From the 15th of June 2023 the full standard of 1.4 W/ (m2.K) applies.

These revisions were approved after recent dialogue with the DLUCH, Endurance and other key bodies within the timber door core and door industry.
To confirm the new changes to Approved Document L building regulations do not affect Endurance Doors, as we are categorised as a timber door manufacturer. The specification of a laminated timber core is the cornerstone of our product that’s bolstered using PVCu CoolSkin door skins, a wet glazing process and the unique Moisture Barrier System.
Additionally, the Government’s Approved Doc-F which sets out new requirements for ventilation within dwellings applies only to habitable areas within a home, like lounges, bedrooms and kitchens for example. Entranceways are not included within the scope of this document and are therefore not required to have trickle vents installed for ventilation.
However, in the rare instance where a door may be fitted into a kitchen or lounge which has no other form of ventilation, you may be required to fit a door product that includes trickle vents. If you are unsure whether an installation is required to feature trickle vents, please consult your local Building Control.
