Are Composite Doors Environmentally Friendly?
Here at Endurance Doors, our customers regularly ask if composite doors are environmentally friendly. Climate change has been at the forefront of public debate for a long time, so it’s not surprising that homeowners are becoming more eco-conscious. They want high-quality composite doors, but they don’t want to negatively impact the planet at the same time.
We take our corporate responsibility seriously. Installing a composite door is a green option, and we’re confident they are good for the planet in the long run. When you design a composite door with Endurance, we’ll make every effort to be as eco-conscious as possible. Here are several reasons why composite doors are an environmentally-friendly choice.
Unfortunately, it is borderline impossible to make any kind of home improvement in a completely ecological way. However, we can create products where the long-term benefits offset the carbon emissions caused by their construction
We build our composite doors around a solid timber core. We only use wood from Forest Stewardship Council-certified forests, so it is fully sustainable. The FSC is an international non-profit organisation that ensures the highest environmental standards are met and that businesses support responsible forestry. If you see a product with the distinctive FSC tick tree logo, you can rest easy knowing you’re not harming the world’s woodlands.
Some composite door manufacturers rely on plastic cores, but we use wood because it is a far more responsible choice. It also has natural insulating qualities, helping your home retain heat and making it easier to manage the temperature. This means you won’t need your heating and cooling on as much, putting less strain on the power grid and reducing your carbon footprint. As a side effect, this also means your electricity bills will drop.
Our HomeView Door Designer offers a simple to follow step by step process, enabling you to construct your ideal composite door and see how it looks on your home.
As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping the world green, we’re reusing more materials when manufacturing our doors. We’re constantly reviewing our work and production systems to find areas we can improve, and we now produce 82% less waste. Our in-depth recycling programme covers polystyrene, cardboard, uPVC, aluminium, paper, timber and more.
We’ve also taken steps to work with green suppliers. Our partners at Rehau, Metsa, and Rocal Extrusions are dedicated to sustainability and make the extra effort to be environmentally friendly. For example, Rehau uses recycled materials around 50% more than the global average, while Rocal Extrusions use local sources to cut down on unnecessary travel. They’re all working hard to reduce carbon emissions, and we are very proud to collaborate with them.
Lastly, to offset the timber we use, we have also committed to planting a tree for every two doors we create. This has led to 1287 new trees being planted at the time of writing to encourage growth.
