We’re here today to raise awareness of door maintenance. You may think making the upgrade to a new Endurance composite is the end of the story, but this is not the case. It’s incredibly important to maintain your front door to ensure it keeps performing to the best of its abilities for as long as possible.
Whilst Endurance doors are built to last and require very minimal upkeep compared to competitors, there is still the need for some general care every now and again. Our doors’ innovative design and manufacture mean that the steps you’ll often need to take are simple and infrequent.
Composite Cleaning Tips
We recommend that you wipe down the door with a damp, lint-free cloth using mild, warm, soapy water every month. This will keep it looking the part and make sure the colour pops as much as the day it was installed.
We also advise you to refrain from using any harsh chemicals or solvents when cleaning your doors, even if there is tough-to-remove dirt or stains. This is because they could damage the skin of your door and cause discolouration.
Maintaining Your Hinges and Locks
Perhaps the most important step in your door maintenance is in its hinges and locks. They’re used every time you open and close your door, so it’s crucial to give them some extra love and care to ensure they function smoothly for years to come.
Whilst upkeep for hinges and locks isn’t too frequent, it’s essential. We suggest that every six months, you open the door and place an old sheet underneath it. Then, lubricate all the moving parts with a silicone spray, bar the locking cylinder.
To maintain the smooth operation of your locking cylinder, we’ve found that ABS Lock Lube works brilliantly to clean and protect locks. It’s specifically designed for ABS Master Cylinders, which is the system we use on all our doors.
It works against sticky mechanisms and worn-out parts, preventing costly repairs or even the need to replace the whole lock. It’s what we recommend to our installers too, as it resolves 40% of lock-related callouts in an instant.
Apply the lock lube directly into the keyhole for 1-2 seconds, then rotate the key. You can repeat this if necessary, if you’re dealing with a heavily contaminated cylinder.
This lock lube works effectively to solve most performance or usability issues in your lock.
For those who live in areas with more intense weather, such as coastal properties, you may need more frequent upkeep efforts than others.
When to Call a Professional
While some low-level performance issues can be solved with relative ease, for major issues, you should enlist the help of a professional. If the door won’t open or close at all, if it scrapes the floor or the frame, if the glass is cracked and so on, we advise you to talk to your installer.
As a quick rule of thumb: if you think your door affects your security, insulation or daily function, get in contact with a professional and see what they’d advise.
