While composite doors are known for their durability and incredibly low maintenance compared to other types of doors, they are not entirely maintenance-free. Over time, regular cleaning and occasional care can help preserve their appearance and functionality.
Composite doors are crafted from a combination of materials and depending on the manufacturer, the materials used may require different cleaning materials or frequency in cleaning. At Endurance, our composite doors are made with a combination of solid timber and heat-reflective PVC skins that work together to protect your door from the elements and reduce the need for frequent maintenance.
How to clean your composite door
We recommend only using mild detergents with warm water if the door is somewhat dirty. Most of the time, you can get away with a simple wipe-down with a damp cloth to get rid of any debris. The reason being that our composite doors are all built with protective layers that prevent UV damage and weather-related abrasion. This technology is made specifically with low upkeep in mind, the use of overly strong cleaning materials, especially anything bleach or acidic may go on to impact the performance of this layer of high-value protection and lead to colour fading.
How to maintain your composite door
Contrary to popular belief, maintenance, and cleaning are 2 different routines. To maintain your composite door, open it and line it with an old sheet underneath. Lubricate all of the moving parts with silicone spray, apart from the locking cylinder. To ensure your locking cylinder operates smoothly, use graphite powder for lubrication. Coat your key with graphite powder and insert it into the cylinder, moving it back and forth 10-15 times to distribute the lubricant thoroughly.
How often should you maintain your composite door?
Thanks to the components that come together to create a composite door, you’ll hardly notice the amount of maintenance needed. Their durability makes it so that most of the time you’ll only need to clean your door on an ad-hoc basis depending on your regular activities (i.e hiking and bringing dirt with your shoes!). At the very most, you’ll only have to clean it once a month with a wipe down, and carry out the maintenance routine, once every 6 months.
Here at Endurance, we don’t leave anything to chance. We’ve put together an aftercare page with a video guide on all-things cleaning & maintenance if you need further information. If you have any questions or comments that need answering, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help.
